This outdoor living space is perfect for intimate gatherings and enjoying a roaring fire on a chilly night. The strong bold materials combined with antique and new furnishings achieve casual lifestyle. This newly remodeled Carefree desert home was designed with Classic Southwest architectural details and style. Integrating rough hewn wood beams and venetian plaster walls creates a dining room with character. The refined mahogany table and collected antiques unite simple elegance. Pieces from a client's personal art collection give this Carefree home sophistication and style. The soothing light and color palette warm this space and give a relaxing, comfortable effect. An imposing side entry features a graceful curved staircase and treillage stone and wood floors. The interior finishes selected integrate and harmonize with the architectural backgrounds. This inviting light filled living space features a carved stone fireplace, beamed ceilings, and wood floors. The soft color palette of this room offers relaxing comfortable space. The character of the interiors communicates an attitude of style and sophistication. The interiors are not only inviting but truly livable. This newly constructed Scottsdale home was designed for practical living. The hand-painted tiles were selected to resist current trends and create an understated relaxing environment. This terry-cloth slipcovered chaise adds a spa-like feel to this bath. This new home in Scottsdale Arizona is an interpretation of a European kitchen. The client desired color which was incorporated with the tile. Adding collected European antiques make this home feel well traveled An French antique vanity graces this charming guest bedroom featuring upholstered headboards, dust skirts, and Euro shams in Pierre Frey fabric. This custom hand carved Saint Francis powder bath door brings charm like no other. The nude Moroccan tile allows the unique collected horse trough to shine. This home was designed and built with influences of Spanish European styles. The materials were selected for a casual comfortable relaxed effect. Biblical stone floors combined with European antiques reads simply elegant in this Paradise Valley entry. Bringing the interiors outside: Tile flooring, cozy dining areas and comfortable seating arrangements makes exteriors spaces a family favorite and perfect for entertaining. Experience soft subtle color and the feeling of tranquility in this guest bedroom that invites in lots of natural sunlight and beautiful vistas. This urban style bedroom was incorporated at the request of the homeowner to be reminiscent of a downtown loft experience. A cozy windows seat with overstuffed pillows and lots of natural sunlight is the perfect place to curl up and read the latest bestseller. This powder bath reflects charm with upholstered walls, a 19th century Bamboo chest and an 18th century hand needlepoint collected chair. A birdhouse master bathroom with a fresh clean spa atmosphere and a personal touch with a monogrammed terry cloth slip cover. This Santa Barbara style great room is a classic inspired room with a strie chocolate velvet sofa and chairs all on a collected needlepoint area rug. This canine inspired great room is adorned with vintage dog paintings, French antiques, and an antelope area rug to create a comfortable, collected living space. Tartan plaid, leather, and toile coordinated with the vintage fabric on the chairs create a setting for a bountiful dining room. Upholstered chocolate and white toile walls mixed with crisp white linens add intimacy and charm to this small guest bedroom. Mixing antique French iron pieces with vintage fabrics and florals, this garden art studio lets the outside in. Authentic vintage French terra cotta pavers and collected antiques transform this semi custom home in DC Ranch to a French farmhouse. This inviting, colorful family room offers a variety of colors and textures. A French window box with antique collections of French Pottery. This enchanting, quiet room immediately invites you in. Walls are upholstered in a ticking stripe combined with a Colefax and Fowler floral chintz. A vintage collectable chandelier adds the finishing touch. An English lady's study features upholstered walls and custom bookshelves made from antique carved moldings. A perfectly sized floral upholstered lounge chair and collectable Bahara area rug create a warm and inviting This study, created off the master bedroom of a custom home reflects the owner's love of dogs. A chocolate toile fabric with dog motif is mixed with tartan plaid and leather. Inspired by the simplicity of a European farmhouse, this custom kitchen features glazed cabinets, hand scraped wood floors, and granite counter tops. This living room has vaulted ceilings, hand scraped wood floors, and leaded glass windows. French antiques and a wool/sisal rug adds to the elegant but liveable feel. This tranquil bath area was converted from a bedroom complete with a spa like shower and a free-standing tub to relax and view tv. Vintage hardwood plank floors, heavy timber beams and a stone fireplace create the feel of a European farmhouse. This exquisite master bedroom is enhanced by wood vaulted ceilings, a four-poster canopy bed, and a custom ottoman that houses a television. Over-scaled upholstery, with terry cloth slipcovers, creates an intimate spa-like feeling in this master bathroom. Located in a historical home, this interpretation of an English garden room incorporates classic scale and pattern, with the warmth of beautiful antiques from the 19th century. Brunschwig and Fils classic fabric ''Villandre Linen'' invites you to gather by the fireplace to have a home-cooked meal. An English period estate with classic antique Louis XV arm chair. Classic blue and white toile and porcelain collections create ambiance in this classic family room. Rich mahogany paneled walls, linen velvet sofas, and an Oriental rug create a European feel in this elegant, yet comfortable, formal family room. This room appears grand in size, but still maintains the warmth of texture and color that invites you in to gather with family and friends. This home theater room reminds one of a bygone era, with its magnificent ceiling and decorative applied moldings. Designed as a retreat where adults will gather, this wine room features a fireplace, comfortable seating, and a wine cellar. Refined fabrics, trims, and exquisite draperies bring intimacy and elegance to this opulent living room. This Old English inspired family room not only seats many at the back bar, but also functions as a theater room with a ceiling remote screen. A chocolate hunting toile is mixed with plaid, neutrals and a Bessarabian rug to create a warm and inviting guest suite. Nestled in the pines, this mountain retreat evokes the feel of a vintage hunting lodge. The use of yellow and white tiles in a checkerboard pattern add a bit of whimsy to a spa like bathroom. Chris Benac

Receiving her first degree in Fashion Merchandising from the University of Arizona, Chris continued her education at Arizona State University where she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Accounting. She also holds an Associate of Arts degree in Interior Design from Scottsdale Community College and served her design internship at Nelson Barnum Interiors.

Chris has over twenty years of combined work experience in business, retail management, and interior design, eight of which have been at Nelson Barnum Interiors. Utilizing her diverse educational and employment history, Chris provides her clients with unique designs and an innate business sense, while creating comfortable living and working environments. Her projects include high-end residential and executive office suites both in and out of state.

Kim Barnum

Working in the design industry for over twenty years, Kim served as a design intern at a Scottsdale studio, and then moved to Polo Ralph Lauren in their Home Collection where she trained with New York Polo window display designers. Kim returned to Scottsdale and worked for a local studio as a designer for eight years before opening Nelson Barnum Interiors with Teresa Nelson, specializing in classic, inspirational design. Kim's distinctive and refined style, attention to detail, and skill at combining function and aesthetics offers clients a pleasant experience from project inception to completion.

Kim began her design study at Point Loma College in San Diego, California and received her Associate of Arts degree in Design from Mesa Community College. In addition, she earned a Bachelor of Arts in Business from the University of Phoenix.

Nelson Barnum Interiors was founded by Teresa Nelson and Kim Barnum almost 15 years ago, and is one of Scottsdale's most established, full-service design studios. Teresa and Kim's individual strengths blend together artfully to bring client's the most unique and exquisite interiors the area has experienced. They share a mutual passion for work inspired by 19th and 20th century Europe and are founded in the belief that beautiful design must include functionality.

Norma Schulz

The newest member of the Nelson Barnum design team is Norma Schulz. Her educational background includes an Associates of Arts Degree in Business and she is currently completing her Applied Science Degree in Interior Design at Mesa Community College. She will graduate with an advanced certificate next Spring.

Norma has twenty years experience in administrative work and ten years experience in the retail design industry. In 2003 she began her design internship at Nelson Barnum Interiors, being mentored by Teresa Nelson and Kim Barnum.
